The Bequeathed Synopsis and Plot Summary
The story centers around Yoon Seo-ha who inherits the cemetery left by her father, whose history she was unaware of and then experiences a sequence of frightening incidents.
The play opens by introducing her half brother Kim Young-ho. The character appears attracted by something when she takes over her family’s cemetery within the countryside and the occult aspects are laid out in the background.
The story of the cemetery gets more entangled the directing cross-cuts between the genres of thriller and occult If you examine the scene carefully, the message the story intends to communicate is clear.
The key words that define the plot are ‘the discomfort and relationship ambivalence’. The characters remain in uncomfortable relationships with the people closest to them, yet cannot end them.
Yoon Seo-ha is aware of her husband’s affair, yet she accepts it for respect and pride, while she displays her ambivalence through finding out information about the incident by visiting an errand centre.
She is determined to cling to the old book of a professor to be able to hold a full-time position but, in the end she has a greater hatred for him than any other person.
